a smallish post, pretty much all i wanted to say was that after hours of careful study i can finally watch mst3k and see crow facing the movie, ie facing away from the camera. it was harder than you'd think, believe me. i have to train myself to look at it right.

trogdor in post-it form is so awesome. i love april fools jokes.

listening to: nine inch nails - deep
feeling: bewildered at why i like nine inch nails

so i decided i'd say a few things to spark off discussion, and also because i can rant here if i want. you don't have to like it.

update! i forgot something else that annoys me a lot, when people set their msn name to something other than a name, like a poem, quote or song lyric that ends up taking up about 3 lines. also, people that say "r u" instead of "are you" and use the number 8 in words like great and mate.

rss feeds should only be used for notification of updates, not reading whole posts. the whole is more than the sum of the parts when it comes to reading websites, i will soon change my rss feed accordingly.

as i said up there, i'm listening to nine inch nails and quite enjoying it. this kind of irks me, because i didn't think i was the kind of person who liked nine inch nails at all. i draw the line at use of the accursed "NiN" though.

i'd say that the latest harry potter book was written in a weekend if that didn't require her to have a typing speed of about 4000 words per minute. how long's the film going to be? she knows she's writing books that are going to be made into film now, she may as well write stage directions; HERMIONE folds her arms, RON WEASLEY does that annoying thing with his face again. VOLDEMORT is the baddie again, but HARRY uses whatever artefact has been mentioned at some point to kill him again. i highly doubt that she was that emotional when writing the death of a character, especially as we all knew it wouldn't be a major one.

the rapture are the new hives! oh wait, no, they're the old hives again, but with some sort of dance music in the background.

exerpt from empire magazine's review of the chicago dvd:
"Yes, it looks nice, yes, Catherine Zeta Jones can sing and dance quite convincingly at the same time (certainly compared to co-star Renée Zellweger); yes there are even a couple of good tunes (well, one, in fact). But isn't it merely the film of a stage show, with clunking dialogue serving as a link to the next big number?
Not that's there's anything wrong with a knockout musical of a movie [...] it's just that Chicago isn't one of them."

this review makes me glad some magazines aren't all hype and no balls. it recieved two stars out of five for both the film and dvd extras, just for reference, this puts it equal to (taken from the same issue) ghost ship. take all that jazz.

away messages on aim are getting increasingly more random. what's the point? if it tells me where you are or what you're doing, i'm happy. if it's a quote from an obscure novel, or if you're shouting "GARY BUSEY HAS A BONER!!!" at me, then i have no idea where you are or when you're getting back. i may love you, but you'll annoy me all the same.

in a completely unrelated note, i have to travel to london soon, and so when i went downstairs and saw a cardboard sign with "LONDON" written on it, i thought my mum had made it for me as a joke, but it turns out it's an advert for a £10 return ticket to london! this is very good. it would cost about 6 or 7 times that much to get there otherwise. this makes me happy, and so is probably a fitting end to a ranting post.

   ( mixtapery )

so i feel like i went up a level in indie-rockness1 this weekend, because i finally2 finished my first true mixtape3.

i feel so proud. seriously. i had made the tape a few days previously4, but i got all nervous about making an insert for it, because alice's was so good. eventually i managed to dig out some crafts materials and some stuff to decorate it with, and i think i did a fairly good job, for a first attempt at least :) i'm sending it off today, so alice, i hope you enjoy it.

later on i'm going to a friend's sister's wedding reception, so that should be fun. i'll be wearing the shirt, so that should turn a few heads. i got more good comments when i was out last night, so i'm going with the consensus that it's a great shirt, rather than the consensus that it belongs on someone's wall.

1 last night i went out with some friends and was busy explaining how indie rock credibility is won and lost in clubs. things like not dancing unless there's only 2 or 3 people on the dancefloor, and then only to songs that are from the first album by a particular band, or are at least 7 years old, you can't like any song that rhymes "beat" with "feet", how enjoying music is the new disliking music; you have to act like you enjoy the songs you hate because everyone knows you don't, and so on. we're all post-post-modern these days, darling.
2 sorry it took so long.
3 discounting burned cds and a tape i made for tycho that wasn't really a mixtape in the emo sense.
4 and listened to it a heck of a lot.

so here it is! my new design, and a slight step away from really-thin-design-in-a-box to something a little more graphical :) i hope you like it, but after all the effort i put into making it, drawing all the little bits, putting it all together, selling my soul and enlisting help from mudge to get it to look good on a mac, i really don't care if you like it or not :)

only a few sections are open at the moment, but i'll work on those soon. why not take a moment to refresh and see the little mike in the corner up there spout various sayings, and the random copyright info too :) if you want to suggest anything, feel free to leave comments :)

i've got something awesome in the works. doug's seen it and also thinks it's awesome. i showed the graphic i'm using to swifty and tycho and they thought it was adorable. if you want to see it, let me know.

in other news, thom has a weblog up, but i don't like the design. you need to get away from mspaint, thom :)

so yes, i know i'm a few months behind the times when it comes to games, but i finally got around to getting the latest adventure of the woman with the biggest shoulderpads in gaming.

metroid prime kicks butt. i got excited about getting it because i'd played it in hmv, and it's been a while since i've gotten excited about a game. it rocks. i even like scanning stuff, it seems more like an adventure than a shoot-em-up, which is always good. and to think i was disappointed when i heard it was going to be a 1st person shooter.

great new strong bad email today! :D

i have to plan a trip to suffolk, then to london, and soon. this isn't my strongest point, but i do have motivation considering what it's for :)

oh, and before i forget, you should go check outthis weird floaty man. bizarre.

i think i probably would have written a decent post if it wasn't for the fact that my eye decided to get allergic to something and start dying, and that i've been playing wario ware, inc. solidly.

i made up a quick design for doug so that he'd start posting stuff again. it has ninjas.

i posted to my livejournal because i wanted somewhere to ask "am i hot or what?"

the first two people i showed that to said i looked like a cowboy.

i think there are three kinds of relationships online, at least in aim conversations. they're probably a little more complicated than i'll put here, but you can pretty much group them like this:

· the pedestal: you respect someone or admire someone and naturally put them on a higher level than yourself, maybe it's someone you have a crush on, or it's someone who is well known to many, and you want to get to know better. you tend to start the conversation off in most, possibly all cases, because you want to be associated with them in some way, and you compliment them a lot.
· the fan: you're on the recieving end of the pedestal, someone is out there who likes what you do, who wants to get to know you better or tell you they appreciate what you do. you might send them a message once in a while to show you appreciate it, but you tend to stay within your usual group of friends who are on the same level as yourself.
· the inner circle: with these people it's a fairly even split between who starts the conversation off, you both like talking to each other and you're pretty close. you usually rely on each other for support or to joke around, and you talk pretty often.

i don't know why i decided to write that, i guess i just wanted to think about how many of the pople i know are in each of the catagories.
