happened. i was sitting in my room, casually minding my own business and talking to emily on the phone, when the fire alarms sounded. now i would have usually ignored these², and i did for a while, but after about 5-10 minutes i began to wonder if i should leave my room. so i wandered around, still on the phone, checking for signs of a fire. none. so i went back to my room. then i noticed the fire engines driving towards the building.

uh oh. i suppose i better get out.

so i'm walking down the stairs, still on the phone to emily, when i realised that i didn't have my camera! so, to emily's surprise and disbelief, i went back up to get it. and i took some photos!

bird's eye view

i made this one bigger because it's a better photo. this is the shot out of the window as i sauntered out of the burning building. you can see marcus (in the white), martin (in the black) and holly (in the white with blonde hair), my flatmates, as the bottom-most people on the photo.

so i strolled out of the fire exit and there were lots of people around.

and a fire engine

marcus, gav and i wandered over to the car park and they ended up playing football with a bottle they found while i commented on the goings-on to emily. i was a little worried that there would still be people inside, which would make them cooler than me, but a quick trip around the side reassured me. i took a very blurry self portrait:

wtf!

and sat down in the benches there, where i noticed there were still people in the pub/bar drinking and therefore cooler people than me. oh well.

this is also where we had the barbeque to start off the year, where the burgers and sausages were all burned on the outside, frozen on the inside. yay.

i got all american

okay. so. we were stood around for ages and then we got bored. so we started playing football in the carpark. it's just opposite where i live, the wall i face out of actually, you can see where i live here:

home

it's the 4th window in on the top floor, with the slanted roof. hey. so yeah. a big crisis and i was on the phone to emily all the way through it. fun! i think she enjoyed her window into the action. because of her i started calling the fire engines "fire trucks" and then she did too, so i guess i went american and then turned her more american. who knows! that'll teach her to call me when my building is on fire.

well, it turns out that it was only a chip pan fire, but they brought 3 fire engines out when i got stuck in the lift, so i think the firefighters just need the fresh air. anyway, i'm okay. phew. long post. also: it is my birthday tomorrow/today (the 30th) :) wish me a good one!

¹ for a given value of exciting.
² at this point i'd like to mention the time that the building had a fire drill at something like 8 in the morning. i woke up due to the incredibly loud alarms, thought "there's no way i'm getting out of bed, this is a drill i'm sure." and managed to fall back asleep.

remember whether i posted anything on here or not. i get vague ideas about it, bu tthen i think maybe i dreamed it. then i think, if i did dream it, that would be a pretty boring dream to have. i think i had about 3 dreams last night, perhaps it was one of them.

i'm working hard at this assignment, yay for web sites. i make enough of them in my spare time as it is! i get a little stressed out sometimes, especially when databases don't do what they're supposed to. i know some php and i keep trying to put that into the jsp pages i'm making. doesn't work. unsurprisingly. oh well.

more presents arrived today! aaah! my birthday is on friday and i'm actually starting to get a little excited by it. hot rocking socks.

   ( okay, i just )

found out as i was leaving work that my boss reads my website. freaky. i guess i should post about how much i like working there more often! :D

seriously though, and this is inspired by but not due to the fact i found this out, i like working in a cinema. it's one of those jobs i always thought i'd be happy doing, and wanted to do. i've worked in a delicatessen (my cat used to run up to me and brush against me because i smelled of meat. yay), a restaurant and stacking shelves in a supermarket. i've even done work experience in a womens' clothing store. that was odd. but this is a job i really don't mind staying behind for an hour (once in a while, mind. it depends on my mood) to help out at. i'm actually considering asking for a few more hours. this week, one of my fellow workers on the box office has about 44 hours. i have 11. we're both part time. i did ask for time off this saturday though. that's maybe why. i hope it's paid, kieran!

i am a big movie buff. one of the ideas i have for the next incarnation of this site (whenever that may be) is to have all the movies i watch down the side along with ratings from 1-10. i watch SO MANY MOVIES it'd be a good idea. i know it. i have at least fifty ticket stubs in my wallet at least. oh the perks of cinema workage! :D

best things that has happened to me all day is the discovery that my faulty cd drive (which seemed to jam and never open when i wanted it to) can be opened by a deft, fonzie-style, hit to the top of my computer. make of this what you will.

   ( i totally had )

a family outing today. yeah. you know it. it was a bank holiday and my dad wanted us all to have a day out together. so we went to this town called matlock baths. and to a place called the heights of abraham1, which was a cable car thingy up to a hilltop (a very high one) and a few trips down mines and a fair amount of fun too. i did some amateur camcorder work, honing my skills2. oh yes. it was good though.

the most awesome thing about today was something that came about due to us having to go in two cars. i have three (younger) brothers3 so we end up splitting between the two cars, and taking WALKIE TALKIES with us. it was so good. i kept saying "over" and "roger" at one point. funness in great abounds. i took my ipod too, and a tape deck converter thingy. it was great. i tried to play my mum some standup4 but i don't think she's the standup type. so we just played good music. and that's fun too.

but hey, i have to get up early tomorrow (today) so i should pipe down and sleep up. goodnight!

1 no idea why.
2 read: walking up a tower filming a steep spiral staircase, instead of holding onto the bannister.
3 the annoyingness of this is fairly evenly balanced by the goodness of me getting to boss them around for a good.. 10 or 20 years.

i know i haven't updated in a while. i'm sorry. i've finished with my lectures for the year now, i just have exams left to deal with. i hope i can get time off work to do them. i'll have to see what happens.

so i don't get today off work, though it's good friday. i work 8 hours today, 8 hours tomorrow and 8 hours on sunday. so i miss out on an easter dinner with my family. at least i get paid double for today, i guess. still.

i went out shopping yesterday. and i bought myself some t-shirts, along with some other fun stuff. i might sohw you them at some point, but they're really just t-shirts :) oh! and i was bought a suit for my birthday too! if you want to check me out, go take a look. i have some other photos there of me being all stylish. or trying to. i don't know much about fashion i guess.

in other news: shaun of the dead came out today! go see it! it'll be good! and the new kill bill volume 2 trailer gets me all excited all over again. hurrah!
